The Factors that Influence an Individual's Willingness to Contribute
Psychologists, sociologists and political scientists have devoted much attention to examining 'the individual's development as a citizen of the state'. The citizen's character and tendency to contribute actions and spontaneous initiatives for the sake of the state and its institutions, the community and other people differs from person to person and is influenced by their close environment (family, friends, work etc.) and the more distant environment (culture, national or universal values). In addition, they are influenced by different psychological factors (personality and character traits), factors connected with the national structure, demographic and other variables. In contrast, as far as the researcher could discover, the developmental process of organisational 'citizens' has not been studied in depth until now. Under the assumption that there is such a concept as 'organisational citizenship' that expresses the employee's relations of belonging to the work organisation and a reciprocal relationship of inputs and outputs between them, it therefore seemed important that organisational citizenship should also be awarded attention. A large part of our lives is conducted within the work organisation and is thus influenced by this setting. Most people belong professionally to a private or public business organisation within which their professional life routine takes place. Even those who do not directly belong to one organisation or another, have interactions with such organisations as part of their work.Membership of a professional organisation brings a person, at a certain stage in his life to become a 'citizen' of the organisation, to constitute part of it, to contribute his resources (time, energy, motivation and initiative) to the organisation and in return to receive outputs that the organisation produces for its members (material outputs, a sense of belonging, respect, self-realisation). Now that the components of the concept of 'organisational citizenship' have been explained, it is possible to investigate the concept of 'OCB'.
